Course Overview

Many leaders interpret resistance as stubbornness, rebellion, lack of commitment, or unwillingness to grow. This course teaches trauma-informed leaders to recognize resistance as a protective response and to respond with curiosity, relational integrity, Motivational Interviewing, Stages of Change, servant leadership, and biblical wisdom.

This course integrates trauma-informed leadership, biblical narrative, servant leadership theory, Motivational Interviewing, and Prochaska and DiClemente's Stages of Change. It teaches leaders to interpret resistance as communication about safety, trust, grief, identity, dignity, belonging, and control, while still moving toward accountability and transformation.

Understand the neurobiology of resistance and defensiveness.
Explain the connection between trauma and change avoidance.
Identify the role of relational integrity in transformation.
Apply biblical narratives of resistance, fear, trust, and obedience to leadership practice.
Use the six Stages of Change to assess readiness for transformation.
Use Motivational Interviewing questions to support change without coercion.
